Metallica is the band that got me into metal.
Everything they did in the 80s rocks, there isn't a song in there that I
don't like. The song "Master of Puppets" got me into the
genre, and the album "Ride the Lightning" is 100% awesome. I
believe Cliff Burton was a unique and awesome bass player, despite what
anyone says. The thing about Metallica though, is that most everything
they've done in the 1990s has sucked. I hate Hetfield's voice on
"Load", the thing with Napster was stupid, and now all the
jocks and posers like them. They've never even heard anything pre-Black
album. This band once championed the underground scene, then they sold
out. I guess they liked the taste of mainstream success, because they
sure don't kick half the ass they used to.
That aside, I think that the stuff they put out is
awesome. Here are my reviews of the first three albums:
KILL EM' ALL
1. Hit the Lights: This was
the first song Metallica ever wrote, and it's kind of juvenile
compared to the rest of the album. Hetfield's voice is also kind of
harsh, but it's a good party song
2. The Four Horsemen: This a great song. The riffs are
originally written by Dave Mustaine, for the song
"Mechanix", but this song has better lyrics, and was an
awesome one live
3. Motorbreath: This song, dedicated to the true Metallica
fans, is about living your life the way you want to, taking chances,
and living in the fast lane, great classic thrash.
4. Jump in the Fire: This song is about the devil watching
people on earth do wrong, and get damned. That riff in the beginning
owns.
5. Anesthesia: Cliff Burton's trademark distorted bass solo.
Played in an almost-depressing tone, this is the musical highlight of
the album
6. Whiplash: The song about going to a crazy thrash concert.
7. Phantom Lord: This song is more lyrically complex then some
of the others, and has a cool clean riff in it.
8. No Remorse: Metallica's first war song. Very cool.
9. Seek and Destroy: The 100% awesome song about revenge. The
only problem is, the recorded version isn't half as good as the live
stuff.
